Adolescent Psychotherapy
Culturally, being a teen is no joke today! It's a jungle out there. Being a younger therapist, teens seem to appreciate working with someone closer to their age. There can be a sense of camaraderie, while also being taken good care of, clinically speaking.
In addition to today's social challenges, adolescence is a time full of rapid physical and emotional change. The adolescent brain is very dynamic, undergoing extensive remodeling. Brain changes during this time are among the most important to occur during one’s life. These brain changes, known as plasticity, also make the brain more vulnerable to external stressors.
The ability to learn is at a peak during adolescence. Teaching adolescents how to manage their thoughts, emotions and impulses will profoundly shape the developing brain by laying the neural foundations that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
